PLUNGE TERROR
A GOOD Samaritan cyclist has been praised by police for racing to the aid of a man believed to be the victim of an attempted murder.
He helped the man who had plunged from a first floor window to the ground below, suffering serious spinal injuries.
The cyclist also remained with the badly injured man after he lost conciousness and until paramedics arrived.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the 39-year-old victim suffered the terror fall in Wood Street, Ashton, at 9.30pm last Thursday.
The man was initially discovered by neighbour James Bamber.
“All I heard was a loud bang and when I looked outside my window, he was there,” said James, 33.
“I had only been in the house five minutes and made myself a drink when I heard the noise. After seeing him I phoned the ambulance.”
Police and an ambulance attended the scene.
Detective Sergeant Dave Loughlin, based at Tameside CID, said: “This man has some very serious injuries so it is important we establish exactly what happened to him.
“The cyclist who stopped to help should be recognised for providing support to someone in a very frightening situation.”
Julie Pickles, who works at Cover Management Recruitment on Stamford Street, said: “The police were all around with forensics. You don’t expect this around here.”
Staff at Mary Haworth Beauty Products on Warrington Street were left ‘shocked’ when they arrived for work on Friday morning.
“The police were here all morning and we knew something serious had gone on with the glass lying on the floor, and not being moved,” said Karen Haworth.
Two men, aged 40 and 41, and a 28-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have been bailed until February 28.
The vicitm is reported to be in a stable condition in hospital.
